I Wish I May, I Wish I Might
The sky overflowed stars that night.
A nocturnal brood of flame and ice
strewn against the sky – a flickering
creek filled to the point of merciful
release. Some clung tight, those stars,
although some shimmered afar
and popped, free-falling, dropping
in veiled errant tangents, delivered
to earthly ends by a parachute ablaze.
And we cheered and called for more,
Hurrah! More stars for our wishes!
And with our fingers wide-spread nets,
we gently kneaded the night sky, coaxing
more falling stars to die in our hands.

Stars dying in your hands – wishes make.

Thank you, Celi.
Gorgeous writing.
Thank you, Nan.
The feel is jubilant and hopeful– love it!
Thank you, Brenda. I’m pleased that you like it.
This is lovely… I do like wishing upon a star…
Just a week or so ago I was able to spy the Pleiades – The Seven Sisters out the back bay window. Magical, star wishing.
I did that for about one year – pretended to be a baker – in a grocery chain. Not the same as a shop just dedicated to baked goods.
Thanks for stopping by ‘Oddment’.
I like the idea of pushing the stars around with our hands to add wishes to those that fall. Put a smile on my face.
This reminds me of a night of camping. Lying on the ground, watching the falling stars and dreaming.

Thanks, Pearl. Glad you liked it.
Such a beautifully captured moment, wishing on stars. This was a great read (and re-read, and re-read). My favorite line: A nocturnal brood of flame and ice strewn against the sky.
Lovely, Misk!
Aaah.
Thank you so very much.
This gave me images to dream by, Misk. Gorgeous.
I hope they were happy dreams, S. xx
